Biography

George Markou (DJ M.G.) was born in London, UK on May 1990. Mid 1991 he and his family moved to Nicosia, Cyprus. Later on in 1999 they all moved again to Larnaca, Cyprus.

After the millenium George gained a large interest in music from his brother who at the time was djing at home and he shared his brother’s passion for music.

After purchasing a new computer and music software MG was fascinated by the art of music production and decided it was time to give it a try. Slowly this interest evolved into a passion for the urban genre, which made him realize how much he enjoyed listening to these tracks, something that urged him to take up on djing alongside his productions. Not too long after, DJ MG was offered a small residency at one of Larnacas prime RnB venues called Indigo.

After a very successful winter there, he was offered the wednesdays and sundays residency for RnB nights in club Preserve where he continued to spread his love for urban music throughout the summer.

A Few months later, MG was given the opportunity to enter the nationwide Hit The Decks DJ competition which took place in the islands capital. Nicosia. After going through the semi finals in Scorpios, he rocked the house at the Finals in club Bling, earning 1st Place, making himself an award winning DJ at only 16 years of age. This opened up a plethora of opportunities for MG with offers events all around Cyprus.

During the next year, DJ MG performed in some of the biggest clubs around the island such as Black And White, Bling, Circus, Caramela, and additionally did events for the No 1 radio station in Cyprus, Mix FM.

Throughout the years, DJ MG has played in some of the best clubs in cyprus, and has impressed thousands of urban music fans around the island with his love and passion for the old school tunes but also for the ability to read the crowd and impress with his mixing skills. Some Clubs include Nuovo, Ice, Black And White, Bling, Circus, Basement, Deep, Teez, Topaz, Caramela, Bazaar, Havana, Eleven, Preserve, Scorpios, DMC, Flavours, Indigo.

During the summer of 2009 he collaborated with the legendary Mr. Montana (Sony BMG/Mig 27 CEO) and became the resident DJ for Club Deep in Larnaca under the Industry and This Is Sparta Venues, making him the official MIG27 resident DJ. This residency allowed DJ MG to play along some of the biggest names in the industry such as DJ Cameo (BBC 1Xtra), Donaeo, Crazy Cousins, Richard Blackwood (Choice FM), DJ Luck And MC Neat, DJ Volatile (Soul Kitchen), DJ Sticky, Play Endz, DJ Matchstick and others.

After a very successful summer, DJ MG was approached by the multi award winning DJ S7S to become one of the resident DJ’s at Cyprus’s prime RnB/Hip Hop Venue Club Nuovo alongside some of Cyprus’s freshest talent including DJ LPS, DJ Street, DJ Koyn, DJ Ritz and MC Snipes. The events held there turned out to be a huge success attracting huge crowds and publicity. These events also gave MG the opportunity to play alongside some of the biggest names in the Music Industry such as Grammy Award Winning Fatman Scoop, Rampage (BBC 1Xtra), DJ Mistajam (BBC 1Xtra) and many others.
